We are officially on the last week of traveling after being on the road for three and a half months and my 30th week of pregnancy was a mix of Buffalo, NY, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Right now the baby is the size of a large cabbage—about 15.7 long from head to heel and weighs about 3 pounds. According to babycenter.com her eyesight continues to develop, but after she’s born, she’ll keep her eyes closed for a good part of the day. When she does open them she will respond to changes in light but will have 20/400 vision, which means she can only make out objects a few inches from her face.
I finally had to go shopping for maternity clothes this week. Since I packed so little for our trip around the world I actually had to get some new shirts because I was starting to show some belly skin. We went to Target and got five new long tank tops and one pair of maternity jean shorts. My gym shorts still fit me, but I wanted some nice casual shorts. Target had an awesome selection—super comfortable, and affordable. Even though I only bought one pair of maternity shorts I really like them a lot and my new tanks will still be great after the pregnancy, so it’s a win. It was nice to buy some new clothes, especially since I have been rocking the same clothes during our travels.
After we left Buffalo we flew to Louisiana to see Fat’s family and also had another baby shower. It was super fun and once again we felt a lot of love. Our little girl is so lucky to have a lot of love on both sides of the family! We are extremely thankful and so excited to get back home to start preparing her room. Let me tell you…baby showers are exhausting, but definitely worth it. It’s not about the presents and the money (which are very helpful), but just being surrounded by loved ones and talking to everyone about babies. Having the advice and tips are priceless. Also, we announced the baby name at both showers, but we haven’t announced it on social media yet. We will have something special made just for that, so stay tuned!
After the baby shower in Louisiana, we drove to Pass Christian, Mississippi to stay with Fat’s dad and stepmom for a couple of nights. It was super nice to go there because they live on the beach. One thing we missed a lot during our travel was the beach and warm weather. During our travels, the last time we saw the beach was on our fourth week of our travel in Tonsai Bay, Thailand. After Tonsai it was all cities. The last time we had warm weather was February 6th, so it was definitely time to be wearing some shorts and a tank top. During our stay we got to go for a 12-mile bike ride along the Gulf Coast, which was nice and relaxing. We even went for a walk on the beach and laid out. I was extremely happy to have a tan line and some Vitamin D!
I got to finish off my week doing a sensory deprivation float at Levitate Float Center in Hammond, LA. It was such an amazing experience and so relaxing. I felt very energized and rejuvenated. If you are pregnant and have any low back, sciatic, or hip problems, then it’s a must-try for sure. Since we got back to the US, I’ve had some pain on my right piriformis (which is a deep glute muscle). I read there is a lot of benefits from floating, and I’ve heard some good testimonials from people like my brother. Even the owner’s wife that is pregnant with her third child said it was great too. When I got out of the tank I felt extremely refreshed and my body feels amazing now.
My food this week was a mix of different style of foods, but what I noticed this week with my food is I have been feeling full faster and can’t seem to finish the last two or three bites of my veggies at each meal. The main focus of my meals has been a lot of iron with lots of beans and dark greens. Since my main pregnancy cravings have only been fruit, I made sure I had fruit every day. It doesn’t matter what type of fruit as long as I had it. So this week I had all kinds like blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, mangos, pineapples, and apples.
I didn’t work out at all this week. Again, it’s something I am not happy about, but I am happy that I got to bike ride and walk around the beach. I am also happy that I will be back home in Long Beach for my 31st week of pregnancy because I will be joining the gym and staying active until the end of my 40th week! I have a doctor appointment when I get back to California, so I will ask her what type of workout style she wants me to continue on my last eight weeks.
Here are some other things I noticed that may or may not been related to my pregnancy. (This first one is definitely pregnancy though…) I am starting to feel a little bulge on the outside of my belly bump. It’s so crazy to touch it and feel this hard surface, but I know that’s part of her. I am not sure if it’s her foot, hand, or head but it’s definitely some body part. She is very active and I can feel her flipping around. I am always curious what she is doing or thinking.
Now the rest is random stuff… When I sneeze I am not peeing myself like earlier in my pregnancy, haha. I was doing that a lot when I had my extreme coughs or sneezed, but now I am ok. My cough is still there since day one of my travels on December 12, 2016. The cough is not as extreme as the first two months and it’s also not as consistent, but it’s still there and light.
I also have been breathing heavier. This is probably pregnancy related since she is taking up so much space. The final thing that has been bothering me this week is my hands falling asleep during my sleep and early in the morning when I am eating. This maybe my carpel tunnel. I had carpal tunnel on both wrists since I was 19. It did get better though when I started doing Thai massage to get my stiff neck loosened that was causing a pinched nerve. I feel like it may be that since my neck has been feeling tight with all the traveling we have been doing, sleeping on the plane, sleeping with different pillows, etc., but I’m not sure.
Overall I still feel great and have lots of energy. I don’t feel exhausted and don’t feel like a lard ass, so it has been a great week, haha!
